A large primary care group located in a small city found itself in a critical situation. Cashflow was down, support staff was leaving, and the physicians felt forced to make a decision to sell out to the local hospital system. Staff from Strategic Solutions identified flaws in the billing and collections system, which, once corrected, resulted in a significant increase in receipts. The practice was able to negotiate from a much stronger position, resulting in a better financial arrangement with the hospital system. A physician working with a large hospital system was stranded when the hospital made the decision to discontinue her primary care site. Strategic Solutions stepped in and developed a business plan for an independent primary care site, and assisted in securing financing for this new venture. Our firm also offered startup services including negotiation of the leases, recruitment of staff, development of policies and procedures and the setup and provision of billing services. The physician was able to continue to serve her patients, while at the same time increasing her take-home income. A surgical group had been managed for several years by a knowledgeable senior partner, who retired. A decision had to be made on the management structure of the practice. There was reluctance to hire a new practice manager, but there was a recognition that strong management was important. Strategic Solutions met the needs of the practice by offering a contract management relationship which provided "high-end" practice management services, which were provided in collaboration with the day-to-day managers - at a cost that was affordable to the practice. A large multi-specialty IPA was approached by several payors to enter into managed care contracts. The IPA lacked the staff needed to support the negotiation process. Strategic Solutions staff fulfilled the role of lead negotiator, working with physicians, legal counsel and the payors. Our firm also provided in-depth data analysis and recommendations for revision of key contract terms. |
